My story
Kia ora, I’m Nikki-Leigh.
Piki Toi grew from a desire to create beautiful, meaningful products grounded in te ao Māori—pieces that carry our own language, stories, atua and ways of understanding the world.
How it began
I wanted to make the kinds of resources I wanted to see in the world—thoughtful, contemporary and unmistakably ours.
Piki Toi began with a simple whakaaro: that the things we bring into our homes and use in our everyday lives can hold meaning. They can help us pause, reflect, learn and reconnect with what matters.
What started with my first designs has grown into a collection of card decks, art and other pieces created to support connection and everyday practice. Although the form may change, the intention behind each piece remains the same.
Every product begins with the whakaaro behind it. From there, I consider the words, the imagery, the materials and the way the finished piece will feel in someone’s hands or home. I want each design to feel beautiful, but also purposeful—something made to be kept, used and returned to.
Piki Toi continues to evolve as I explore new ways to bring te ao Māori into contemporary spaces with care, creativity and meaning.
