Mahuika Print

Bring the fierce power and warmth of Mahuika, the Māori goddess of fire, into your space with this captivating print. Mahuika embodies the life-sustaining and destructive force of fire, representing resilience, passion, and the sacred nature of this powerful element.

Her Story: In Māori mythology, Mahuika was the guardian of fire, holding the flame in her very fingers. When the trickster demigod Māui sought fire from her, she generously shared it but soon realised he was testing her patience. As he continued to ask for more, Mahuika became enraged, unleashing her last spark and casting it into the trees. From that day, the knowledge of how to draw fire from the wood was passed on to humanity, ensuring that fire would live on within nature itself. Mahuika’s story is a reminder of the balance between generosity and respect, and the fierce power that can arise when boundaries are crossed.
