His Story: Haumia-tiketike, one of the sons of Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatūānuku (Earth Mother), is the guardian of wild plants, particularly edible ferns like aruhe (bracken fern). When conflict broke out among his siblings after the separation of their parents, Haumia-tiketike sought refuge within his mother, Papatūānuku, hiding beneath her surface. There, he continued to provide sustenance for humankind through the wild plants that sprouted from the earth. His story highlights resilience and the nourishment found in the untouched, natural world.
